From 30 March 2020, telehealth and phone consultation items are available to all Australian citizens and Permanent Residents. This is stage 4 of the COVID-19 response.
Why is this important?
The new Medicare Benefit Scheme (MBS) items will allow people to access essential health services in their home to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and minimise spread to vulnerable people in the community. This is a temporary six-month measure. Should the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) recommend an extension, it will be considered by the Government.
How much will this cost?
Currently there is no cost to the patient, this service will be bulk billed.
