Skin Checks & Mole Assessment

Thorough skin examinations and mole assessments to detect melanoma and skin cancers early. Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer globally, making regular checks essential.

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with two in three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by age 70. However, when detected early, most skin cancers are highly treatable. Our comprehensive skin check service provides thorough examination of your skin to detect suspicious lesions, changing moles, and early signs of melanoma or other skin cancers. Regular skin checks are one of the most important preventive health measures for Australians.

During a skin check, your doctor will perform a full-body examination, carefully assessing your skin for any concerning features. We look for the ABCDE signs of melanoma: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variation, Diameter over 6mm, and Evolving characteristics. We use dermoscopy when needed for closer examination of suspicious lesions. If we identify anything concerning, we can perform a biopsy in our clinic for pathological analysis. We also take photographs for monitoring changes over time.

We recommend annual skin checks for most Australians, with more frequent checks for those at higher risk, including people with fair skin, many moles, a history of sunburn or excessive sun exposure, or a family history of melanoma. Prevention is equally important - we'll provide advice on sun protection, self-examination techniques, and what to watch for between appointments. Early detection saves lives, and regular skin checks are your best defense against skin cancer.
